The most common type is idiopathic facial nerve paralysis, commonly known as Bell's palsy, in which flaccid paralysis suddenly occurs in the muscles on one side of the face, leaving the white of the eye when trying to close the eye, one side of the mouth drooping and distorting, and food and saliva leaking out due to a loose fit.
