Flowers offered during O-bon. A general term for bellflowers, ominaeshi, misohagi, hagi, and lilies. Recently, artificial flowers such as lotus are also called bon flowers. Traditionally, they were picked from the mountains around 10 days before O-bon, and this event is called bonbana mukae. It is said that the spirits of O-bon are welcomed from the mountains into the homes of people using the bonbana as a substitute.
