Ezo Abalone - Ezo Abalone

A gastropod shell of the family Haliotidae in the class Gastropoda of the phylum Mollusca. It is an ecological type of the black awabi H. (N.) discus found from the Tohoku region to Hokkaido, and is the most important species of abalone in marine biology. The shell is elliptical, thin, and has many irregularities. It is cultivated as a food source, starting with the production of seedlings. When transplanted to warm currents, it grows much faster.

軟体動物門腹足綱ミミガイ科の巻き貝。クロアワビH. (N.) discusの東北地方から北海道にかけて産する一生態型で、水産上アワビ類のなかで最重要種である。殻は楕円(だえん)形で薄く凹凸が多い。食用として種苗生産から養殖されている。暖流域に移植すると成長がずっと早くなる。
