… [Tsunetaro Fujita]
[Cultural History of Arms]
"Ude" refers to the area from the tip of the shoulder to the wrist, and sometimes to the fingertips. However, originally "Ude" meant the area from the elbow to the wrist ("Ichinode"), and was also called "Tadamuki." Next to "Ude" is "Nichinode" or "Kaina" from the shoulder to the elbow, and this is the part that is referred to in the "Manyoshu" Volume 3 as "hanging a cotton sash on the kahinagara."
