Swiss music theorist and humanist. His real name was Heinrich Loriti. He studied philosophy, theology, mathematics, and music at the University of Cologne, and in 1512 was awarded the title of poet laureate by Emperor Maximilian I. He later taught poetics, theology, and classical literature in Basel, Freiburg, and other cities, while also studying ancient and medieval literature and music theory. He formed a friendship with Erasmus, and in religious matters he firmly maintained a Counter-Reformation stance. His major work, Dodekachordon (1547), was based on the theoretical traditions of the ancient and medieval period, building on the work of Boethius and Gauffrius, and made a major contribution, especially to the theory of church modes.

スイスの音楽理論家，人文主義者。本名ロリティHeinrich Loriti。ケルン大学で哲学，神学，数学のほか音楽を学び，1512年には皇帝マクシミリアン1世から桂冠詩人の称号を授与される。その後バーゼル，フライブルクなどで詩学，神学，古典文学を教授しながら，古代･中世の文芸と音楽理論を研究。エラスムスと親交を結び，宗教的には反宗教改革の立場を固持した。主著《ドデカコルドンDodekachordon》(1547)は古代･中世の理論的伝統に立脚，ボエティウスやガフリウスを踏まえて，特に教会旋法の理論に大きく貢献した。
