Bonnefoy - Yves Bonnefoy

Bonnefoy - Yves Bonnefoy

French poet. Also known as an art critic and Shakespeare translator. Born in Tours. He began writing poetry under the influence of Surrealism, but his collection of poems Du mouvement et de l'immobilité (1953) attracted attention and he was recognized as one of the most important poets after World War II. Influenced by the philosophies of Hegel and Heidegger and the poetry of Baudelaire and Jouve, his works, characterized by layered and suggestive language, deal with the difficult search for pure existence based on an awareness of death and finiteness. In 1981 he became a professor at the Collège de France, where he developed his criticism of formalism and semiotics. Other works include the poetry collections "Yesterday Reigned in Desolation" (1958), "Stones Written with Letters" (1959), "In the Threshold Trap" (1975), " Ce qui fut sans lumière " (What Was Without Light) (1987), " Début et fin de la neige " (The Beginning and End of Snow) (1991), and " La Vie errante " (The Wandering Life) (1993), as well as "Things Uncertain" (1959), "Arthur Rimbaud" (1961), "A Dream in Mantua" (1967), "Rome 1630" (1970), "The Country Behind" (1972), "The Red Cloud" (1977), " La Vérité de parole " (The Truth of Words) (1988), and " Alberto Giacometti " (1999). His critical works include "Drawing, Color, Light" (1991) and "Dessin, couleur et lumière" (1995).
