A town in Notsuke County in eastern Hokkaido. It occupies the vast Konsen Plateau. Large-scale development, including pilot farms, has made it the center of dairy farming in Hokkaido. Dairy farming, including raising dairy cows, is thriving, and the town produces a lot of raw milk. Fishing involves fixed net fishing for salmon and trout, and boat fishing for scallops, sea urchins, and flounder. There are many scenic spots, including Cape Notsuke, Odaito, and Lake Furen. 北海道東部,野付(のつけ)郡の町。広大な根釧(こんせん)台地を占める。パイロット・ファームなどの大規模開拓が行われ,北海道酪農の中心地となった。乳牛の飼育など酪農が盛んで,生乳を多産。漁業は,サケ,マスの定置網漁業やホタテ,ウニ,カレイの漁船漁業を行う。野付崎,尾岱沼(おだいとう),風蓮湖など風光の地が多い。2005年に風蓮湖・春国岱がラムサール条約登録湿地となる。1319.63km2。1万5855人(2010)。
