Yosemite National Park - Yosemite National Park

A mountain natural park in central eastern California, USA. It spreads across the western slope of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. Its area is 3,080 square kilometers. It was established in 1890. In 1984, it was registered as a natural World Heritage Site (World Natural Heritage). Located 250 kilometers east of San Francisco, it is beloved as one of the most popular parks along with Yellowstone National Park and Grand Canyon National Park. It features a series of 4,000-meter-high mountains, deep valleys and huge cliffs created by glacial action, huge rocks, lakes, waterfalls, clear rivers, and sequoia forests, allowing you to fully enjoy the beauty of nature. The most popular of these is Yosemite Valley, a U-shaped valley in the upper reaches of the Merced River. It is 11 kilometers long, 1.6 kilometers wide, and 610 to 1,220 meters above sea level, with huge granite cliffs such as Half Dome (2,688 meters) and El Capitan (2,305 meters) towering into the sky. Numerous waterfalls flow down from the cliffs, the most famous of which is Yosemite Falls, one of the world's largest waterfalls, with a combined drop of 739 meters between the Upper and Lower falls. Other beautiful waterfalls can be seen in various places, including Ribbon Falls and Bridal Veil Falls. Glacier Point, located in the south of Yosemite Valley, is known as an observation deck that offers a panoramic view of the valley's beauty.

Besides the valley, there are many other places of interest such as the Wawona area and the area around Tioga Road, and the Mariposa Forest where the sequoia trees grow is very popular. The park is home to over 1,300 species of plants and 220 species of wild birds, as well as a wide variety of wildlife, and is fully equipped with recreational facilities such as camping, hiking, mountain climbing, fishing, boating, skiing, and horseback riding.

アメリカ合衆国、カリフォルニア州中東部の山岳自然公園。シエラ・ネバダ山脈の西斜面に広がる。面積3080平方キロメートル。1890年制定。1984年には世界遺産の自然遺産として登録されている（世界自然遺産）。サンフランシスコの東250キロメートルに位置し、イエローストーン国立公園、グランド・キャニオン国立公園と並んでもっとも人気の高い公園として親しまれている。4000メートル級の山々が連なり、氷河作用によってつくられた深い渓谷や巨崖(きょがい)、巨岩、湖、滝、澄んだ川、セコイアの森などがその特徴で、大自然の美しさを余すところなく満喫させてくれる。なかでも人気の高いのは、マーセド川上流部のU字谷ヨセミテ渓谷で、全長11キロメートル、幅1.6キロメートル、海抜610～1220メートルと深く、ハーフ・ドーム（2688メートル）やエル・キャピタン（2305メートル）などの巨大な花崗(かこう)岩崖が天に向かってそそり立つ。崖(がけ)からは何本もの滝が流れ落ち、その代表格のヨセミテ滝は、アッパー、ロワーの2本の滝をあわせて落差739メートルと世界有数の滝の一つである。そのほかリボン滝、ブライダルベール滝など各所にそれぞれの美しい滝を見ることができる。ヨセミテ渓谷の南に位置するグレーシャー・ポイントは、この渓谷美を一望できる展望台として知られる。

　渓谷以外にもワウォナ地域やタイオガ道路周辺と見どころは多く、セコイアの育つマリポサの森など人気が高い。園内には1300種にも上る植物、220種の野鳥など野生生物が多く、キャンプ、ハイキング、登山、釣り、ボート、スキー、乗馬などレクリエーション施設・設備も完備している。
