A high peak in the Tianshan Mountains, located in Central Asia, on the eastern edge of Kyrgyzstan and the border with China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. Pobeda means "Victory". It is 7,435m above sea level. It stands near the junction of the eastern part of the Tianshan's main range, Koksyaltau, and the Meridionarny Range, which runs from north to south. A long glacier runs along its shoulders. Mount Khan Tengri (6,995m) also rises 20km to the north, across a valley covered with glaciers. When it was surveyed by a Soviet land survey team in 1943 during World War II, it was found to be unexpectedly high at 7,439m, and since the war situation was beginning to improve at that time, it was named "Victory Peak."
