Insurance salesperson

Japanese: 保険外務員 - ほけんがいむいん

A person who belongs to a life insurance company and mediates the conclusion of insurance contracts, and is also called an insurance agent or insurance solicitor. They are included in the category of life insurance agents (including officers and employees of life insurance companies) under the Law Concerning the Control of Insurance Sales. Insurance agents must be registered (Articles 3 to 7-2 of the Law Concerning the Control of Insurance Sales), and life insurance companies select suitable candidates from those who wish to join the company as agents, provide them with the required training, and only those who pass the agent exam are registered as life insurance agents with the Ministry of Finance.

生命保険会社に所属して保険契約の締結を媒介する者のことで，保険外交員，保険勧誘員などともいう。〈保険募集の取締に関する法律〉にいう生命保険募集人(生命保険会社の役員，使用人等を含む)に含まれる。保険外務員は登録を受けなければならず(保険募集の取締に関する法律3条～7条の2)，生命保険会社は外務員として入社希望の者から適任者を選別して所定の研修を行い，外務員試験に合格した者に限り大蔵省に生命保険募集人登録を行う。
