A common name for jellyfish-like animals that are suitable for a floating lifestyle among the Coelenterata and Ctenophora. They are divided into the Scyllacea, Hydromedusa, and Ctenophora. With a few exceptions such as the Moon jellyfish, they are usually marine. Most of their body is a colorless, transparent agar, and many are shaped like an upside-down bowl. The lower edge is lined with tentacles. Their staple food is small zooplankton. They are usually dioecious, and their eggs develop into attached polyps, which then bud asexually to become jellyfish. Ctenophora are hermaphrodites and do not have a polyp stage. The Nomura's jellyfish and the Rizon's jellyfish are edible. The cnidocyte toxins are thalassin and congestin, and each time they are stung, the resistance to the toxins is weakened and the person becomes more sensitive, which can be life-threatening. → Related topic Polyps Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
