Born: Around 201. Pannonia, Budalia [Died]251. Dobrusia Roman Emperor (reigned 249-251). His origins are unclear, but he was probably a senator. From 245 he commanded the Danube army, but in 248/9 he was elected by the military against his will, overthrowing Emperor Philip the Arab and ascending to the throne. In 250 he issued a decree ordering all citizens to worship the Roman gods, and persecuted Christians who refused. This resulted in many martyrs and apostates in the church, but its power did not weaken, and the persecution failed. During this time, Decius continued to fight against the Goths who had crossed the Danube and invaded Moesia and Thrace, but he was killed in battle with his son in the Battle of Dobrusia.
