Born December 16, 1939, Tokyo, Japan. Norwegian actress. Full name Liv Johanne Ullmann. Known for her simple beauty, intelligence, and rich acting, she has appeared in many of the works of Swedish film director Ingmar Bergman. She was born in Japan due to her father's work as an engineer, and grew up in Norway, Canada, the United States, and other countries. She studied acting in London and Norway as a teenager, and appeared in several plays at the National Theatre in Oslo. Since starring in Persona (1966), she has been Bergman's partner both in public and private for many years.
