Bouzu-ra - Bouzu-ra

A marine animal belonging to the phylum Coelenterata, class Hydrozoa, order Tubulejoidae, family Acanthidae. It consists of a large pneumatophora and a long trunk. It has no swimming bell. The pneumatophora is ovoid, about 2 cm high and 1 cm wide, and a trunk arises from its lower end. The trunk can reach several meters when it stretches, and many trunk groups are connected above it. The trunk group consists of trophozoites, tentacles, and gametophores. The trophozoites are long and slender tubular, the tentacles have many thread-like side branches, and the gametophores have small branches that branch several times and gametophores at their tips. The whole body is pale pink, but may be slightly purple or yellowish. The nematocysts in the tentacles are highly venomous, and a sting is extremely painful. It is often seen in spring along the coasts of central and southern Honshu, and is widely distributed in temperate and tropical seas around the world.

腔腸(こうちょう)動物門ヒドロ虫綱管(くだ)クラゲ目ボウズニラ科に属する海産動物。大形の気胞体と長く伸びた幹とからなる。泳鐘はみられない。気胞体は卵形、高さ2センチメートル、幅1センチメートルほどで、その下端から幹が生じている。幹は伸長した場合数メートルにも達し、その上に多くの幹群が連なっている。幹群は栄養体、触手、生殖体叢(そう)からなる。栄養体は細長い管状、触手は多数の糸状の側枝をもち、また生殖体叢には数回分岐した小枝とその先端に生殖体がみられる。体全体は淡紅色であるが、わずかに紫色または黄色を帯びることがある。触手の刺胞毒は強く、刺されるとひどい痛みを感ずる。本州中部以南の沿岸に春に多くみられ、また世界の温帯・熱帯の海に広く分布する。
