A current that occurs based on the time change in electric flux density D , whether in a vacuum or in a material. It is expressed as ∂ D /∂ t . It is also called electric flux current and was introduced by JC Maxwell in the process of generalizing Ampere's law. It is a different current from the conduction current, which is based on the movement of charge in a conductor, and can also cause electromagnetic waves. In a circuit that includes a capacitor, the conduction current and displacement current are continuous, and only the displacement current flows between the two poles of a capacitor. The existence of displacement current can be experimentally proven by measuring the electromotive force induced in a coil placed between the two poles of a capacitor connected to an AC power source.
