Born: June 12, 1936, Ehime [Died] February 8, 2013. Tokyo businessman. Founder of Recruit (Recruit Holdings). Inspired by his experience in sales at the University of Tokyo newspaper while studying at the University of Tokyo, he founded University Newspaper Advertising, the predecessor of Recruit, upon graduation in 1960. The following year, in 1961, he launched the job information magazine "Invitation to Companies" (later renamed "Recruit Book"). In 1984, the company name was changed to Recruit. He was the first student entrepreneur and a dynamic figure in the world of job advertising. He developed the business and diversified it into job advertising, real estate, travel, and career change guidance. He was in the spotlight as a new-age manager, having produced many entrepreneurs among his employees, and was also active as a public figure. However, he was arrested in 1989 in the Recruit Scandal, where he was charged with bribery for transferring unlisted shares of his subsidiary Recruit Cosmos to influential people in the business and political worlds in 1988, when he was chairman. After a 14-year trial, he was found guilty and given a suspended sentence in 2003. After that, he retired from the front line, but continued to be active in charity work, investment, and writing.
