Secret of the Foreigners

This is a collection of medicinal prescriptions used from the Six Dynasties to the Tang dynasty. It was compiled by Wang Tao, who was the governor of Anyang in Henan Province in the final years of the reign of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang dynasty, and contains a preface written in 752. As the source is always clearly stated for every quotation, this book is a valuable resource for learning about medical texts of the time. None of the extant copies are in their original form. A published copy from the Northern Song dynasty still exists, but the popular edition was reprinted by Yamawaki Toyo in 1746 based on a Ming dynasty published copy.

六朝から唐代にかけて用いられていた薬の処方を集めたもの。編者は唐の玄宗の末年に河南省安陽の太守であった王燾で，天宝 11 (752) 年の自序がある。本書は引用文に必ず出典が明記されているので，当時の医書を知るうえでも貴重な資料となる。現存する伝本には当初の完全なものはない。北宋時代の刊本が現存するが，流布本は山脇東洋が明時代の刊本をもとに延享3 (1746) 年に復刻したものである。
