1935‐ Spanish mezzo-soprano. She studied at the Madrid Conservatory and made her debut in 1957 at the Aix-en-Provence Festival singing the role of Dorabella in Mozart's Cosi fan tutte. Since then, she has won acclaim for her operas, particularly those of Mozart and Rossini, but she has also been highly praised for her first Spanish songs in her home country. She also has a wide repertoire, including German lieder and Italian songs, and to this day she remains one of the world's leading mezzo-sopranos. She first came to Japan in 1975.
