Spanish mezzo-soprano. She studied at the Madrid Conservatory and made her debut in 1957 at the Aix-en-Provence Festival singing the role of Dorabella in Mozart's Cosi fan tutte. Since then, she has won acclaim for her operas, particularly those of Mozart and Rossini, but she has also been highly praised for her first Spanish songs in her home country. She also has a wide repertoire, including German lieder and Italian songs, and to this day she remains one of the world's leading mezzo-sopranos. She first came to Japan in 1975.

スペインのメゾ･ソプラノ歌手。マドリード音楽院で学び，1957年エクサン･プロバンス音楽祭でモーツァルトの《コシ･ファン･トゥッテ》のドラベラ役を歌ってデビュー。その後とくにモーツァルト，ロッシーニの歌劇に称賛を博し，一方ではお国ぶりのスペイン歌曲にも高い評価を受けた。ほかにドイツ･リート，イタリア歌曲など幅広いレパートリーをもち，今日まで世界屈指のメゾ･ソプラノとしての地歩を保っている。75年初来日。
