Born: Around 331. Singidonum [Died] February 17, 364. Dadastana, Roman Emperor (reigned 363-364). He accompanied Julian on an expedition to Sassanid Persia. After the emperor's death, he ascended to the throne, gave eastern territories to Persia, concluded a humiliating peace agreement, and ensured the safe withdrawal of the expeditionary force. He died on the way back to Constantinople. A devout Catholic, he suppressed the paganism revived by Julian and adopted a protective policy towards the church.
