Year of death: December 12, 1610 (January 6, 1610)
Year of birth: Koji 1 (1555)
A military commander in the Azuchi-Momoyama and early Edo periods. Son of Makino Shigesada, lord of Mikawa Ushikubo Castle (Toyokawa City). Commonly known as Shinjiro, later Uma no Masatake. His name was originally Sadanari, but he took one character from Tokugawa Ieyasu's given name and was called Yasunari. He served Ieyasu from his father's generation, distinguished himself in the siege of Kakegawa Castle and the Battle of Nagashino, and was the commander of Suruga Kokokuji Castle at the time of the Honnoji Incident in 1582. After the siege of Odawara in 1583, he was given 20,000 koku of land in Ogo, Kozuke Province, when Ieyasu was transferred to the Kanto region. In the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600, he fought bravely under Tokugawa Hidetada in the siege of Sanada Masayuki's Ueda Castle, but violated military orders and was confined to his residence in Agatsuma, Kozuke Province, until he was pardoned in 1610, when Iemitsu was born.
