Helicoprion - Helicoprion

Japanese: ヘリコプリオン - へりこぷりおん

A fish of the genus Helicoprion in the family Agaschizodontidae of the order Eugeneodontidae of the class Chondrichthyes. Spiral dentition has been discovered in Paleozoic Permian (Permian) strata around the world, including Siberia, Canada, and the United States. In Japan, it has been discovered in Azumacho Hanawa, Higashimachi, Midori City, Gunma Prefecture, and Kesennuma City, Miyagi Prefecture. Various reconstructions have been proposed based on the spiral dentition, but it is thought to have developed in the suture of the jaw.

軟骨魚綱エウジェネオドゥス目アガシゾドン科ヘリコプリオン属の魚類。渦巻形の歯列がシベリア、カナダ、アメリカなど世界各地の古生代ペルム紀（二畳紀）の地層から発見されている。日本では群馬県みどり市東町花輪(あずまちょうはなわ)と宮城県気仙沼(けせんぬま)市から発見されている。渦巻形の歯列からさまざまな復原像が考えられているが、あごの縫合部に発達したものと考えられている。
