Japanese: シャクケイ(舎久鶏) - シャクケイ（英語表記）guan

A general term for a group of birds in the family Curacidae in the order Galliformes that have longer, slenderer bodies than Curacaos and are more arboreal. There are 31 species in 6 genera, including 9 species in the genus Ortalis , 15 species in the genus Penelope , 3 species in the genus Aburria , 2 species in the genus Chamaepetes , 1 species in the genus Penelopina , and 1 species in the genus Oreophasis . They are found in Central and South America south of Mexico, and many species have pale plumage. They often feed on fruit in trees, and some species build nests in trees and rarely come down to the ground.
