A city in southern Aichi Prefecture facing Chita Bay. It was incorporated as a city in 1948. It occupies the right bank of the mouth of the Yahagi River and is divided into four districts: Shinkawa, famous for its specialty Sanshu tiles; Ohama and Tanao, port towns with brewing, weaving, and foundry industries; and Asahi, an area for growing nursery trees, flowers, and vegetables. The Meitetsu Mikawa Line runs through the city. Kinuura Port was designated an important port in 1957, and in 1973 the Kinuura Undersea Tunnel was opened between Kinuura and Handa City on the opposite bank. Together with Handa City, it forms the Kinuura Coastal Industrial Area.
