Pekingese [species] (English spelling)

Pekingese [species] (English spelling)
A pet dog originating from China. It was a breed that was passed down as a court dog from the Qin and Han dynasties of ancient China, and is said to share a common ancestor with the Japanese Chin and Tibetan Spaniel. Its long, beautiful fur covers its body, and it has a Chin-like face with a muzzle that closes at the forehead, but its chest is deep and wide, its limbs are sturdy, and it is far from graceful. Its personality is also courageous and bold, rare for a small breed, and it is not a lady's lap dog. It was introduced to Europe and the United States after being plundered from the palace of Beijing by British soldiers during the Arrow Incident in 1860, and was imported to Japan from Britain at the end of the Taisho era.
