Japanese: 止肥 - とめごえ

This refers to the last fertilizer applied among top dressings. Usually, nitrogen or nitrogen and potassium are applied. When to apply top dressing and how much to apply must be carefully determined based on the weather of the year, as in the case of rice, this has the greatest effect on ear growth and fertility. If the application is delayed or too much is applied and the weather is bad, the crop will mature late, grow elongated, and the yield will decrease. For rice, top dressing is usually applied at the ear stage, but sometimes seed fertilizer applied after ear emergence is used as top dressing.

追肥のうちでいちばん最後の施肥をいう。通常，窒素もしくは窒素とカリウムを施用する。止肥の施用時期をいつにするか，またその施用量をどのくらいにするかは，イネのような場合は穂の生育や稔実に最も影響するので，その年の気象をみながら慎重に定める。施用時期が遅れたり量を多く施用して，天候が不順だと作物の成熟が遅れ，徒長し，収量は低下する。イネでは通常穂肥が止肥であるが，ときには出穂以後の実肥を止肥として施用する。
