...From this time on, the dynasty lost the western half of its territory to attacks from the Sassanid Empire, which had risen in Iran, and lost the eastern half to a local government, causing a rapid decline and its demise around the middle of the 3rd century. However, the Kushans continued to remain as a local power, and in the 5th century they temporarily established a state in the area stretching from Bactria to Gandhara (Kidara dynasty). The Kushan Empire was home to Indian, Iranian, Greek, and Central Asian peoples, and saw a fusion of ethnicities and cultures.
