The founder of the Heki-ryu archery style. He lived during the Meiō era (1492-1501), but his birth and death years are unknown. Born in Iga (Mie prefecture) (some say he was from Yamato), he was also known as Munenori, Kagemitsu, and Toyohide, and after shaving his hair he called himself Rurikobo Doi (Itoku). He made a name for himself on the battlefield as a northern warrior, but after retiring he devoted himself to archery training, and his techniques became exquisite, leading to enlightenment in the areas of Hi, Kun, and Chu, and laying the foundations for early modern archery. He traveled around the country, gathering people and holding events such as Tsuji-teki and Kanjin-teki, in an effort to popularize archery. The walking archery that he established was accepted by many people as a form of archery for the masses, as opposed to the traditional archery of the upper class.
