This is a non-destructive inspection that uses ultrasound to detect defects in metal materials, etc. When ultrasound passes through an object, some of it is reflected back in the direction of incidence when it encounters a defective part, and the transmitted energy is attenuated. The strength of the reflected and transmitted waves can be used to determine the presence, size, and properties of defects.
