amrta (English spelling)

…Brahma (Brahma) was born from a lotus flower that grew from her navel. In ancient times, Vishnu led the gods and asuras in churning the ocean in an attempt to obtain amrita (nectar). During this churning, precious treasures appeared one after another from the ocean, and Śrī-Lakṣmī (the goddess of blessings), who became Vishnu's wife, also appeared from the ocean at that time. …

From Garuda

…The myth of Sparna (meaning "one with beautiful wings"), which appears in the Rig Veda, is thought to be the origin of the Garuda legend, and is translated as "gold-winged bird" or "miraculous bird." In order to save his mother Vinata, who had been made a slave by the snake tribe, Garuda stole amrita (nectar), the drink of immortality, from the gods and brought it to the snake tribe. However, he made a secret pact with the god Indra, took it back from the snake, and from then on began to eat snakes (dragons) regularly. …

From [Nectar]

...an elixir of ancient Indian and Chinese lore. In India, it was originally a Sanskrit word amṛta meaning "not dying," but in the oldest Indian classic, the Rig Veda, it came to mean immortality and god, and from there it came to mean food and drink for the gods. Therefore, although it is not clear what it originally was, in ancient Indian lore it is often identified with soma wine (a drink made from the soma plant, offered to the gods), and is as sweet as nectar and considered a cure for all ailments.
