Division - Split

(1) division: The division of a living cell, tissue, or individual into two. (2) fission: Also called binary fission. The division of a single-celled individual into two new, equal individuals. This is seen in paramecium, amoebae, sea anemones, and planarians. The terms division and fission are often used without necessarily being clearly distinguishable. (1) division 生物の細胞，組織，または個体がそれぞれの単位で2つに分れること。 (2) fission 二分裂ともいう。特に単細胞の個体が，等価の新2個体に分れること。ゾウリムシ，アメーバ類，イソギンチャク類，ナミウズムシ (プラナリア) などにみられる。なお，divisionと fissionの語は，必ずしも十分に区別されないでも用いられる。
