Common name for arthropods belonging to the order Decapoda of the class Crustacea. They are often called long-tailed crustaceans, but this term is used in contrast to the Anomura, which have a curved abdomen (hermit crabs), and the Brachyura, which have a degenerated abdomen (crabs). Shrimps are broadly divided into laterally flattened bodies suitable for swimming, such as kuruma shrimps and caribou, and transversely flattened bodies suitable for walking, such as spiny lobsters and crayfish (Figure 1). Therefore, in addition to classifying shrimps, hermit crabs, and crabs into the suborders longuar, anomura, and brachyura, there is also a classification system in which swimming shrimps are classified as the suborder Swimulata, and walking shrimps, including hermit crabs and crabs, are classified as the suborder Walking.
