Bashi Channel - Bashi Channel (English)

The strait lies between the Batan Islands, the northernmost part of the Philippine archipelago, and the southernmost part of Taiwan. It is about 85 km wide. The border is located on the strait at 21 degrees 25 minutes north latitude. It is an important waterway connecting the Pacific Ocean and the South China Sea, and is used by large ships, but the winds are strong and the currents are fast. The shallowest part is 1,800 meters deep, and the deepest point is 4,900 meters.

フィリピン群島の最北端バタン諸島と、台湾の最南端との間にある海峡。幅は約85キロメートル。国境線は北緯21度25分の海峡上にある。太平洋と南シナ海を結ぶ重要な水路で、大型船舶の航行に利用されるが、風が強く海流も速い。水深は浅い所でも1800メートル、最深点では4900メートルにも達する。
