Gankubisou - Gankubisou

A perennial plant of the Asteraceae family (APG classification: Asteraceae). The stem is erect, 0.25-1.5 meters tall, and branches at the top. The leaves are alternate and ovate, with some slightly heart-shaped at the base. They are softly hairy on both sides and have glandular dots on the underside. From August to October, they produce downward-facing flower heads at the ends of the branches. There are 2-4 bracts just below the involucre. They grow on the forest edges of mountains and fields, and are widely distributed from Japan to Korea and China, with many individuals found everywhere and many variations. There are several varieties, such as Nopporogankubisou, which has large leaves, and Hosobagankubisou, which has thin leaves. The name comes from the fact that the flower heads on the branches resemble the gooseneck of a kiseru. Koyabu tobacco (C. cernuum L.) is similar to C. cernuum L., but is covered with dense soft hairs and has larger flower heads. It grows in lowland forests throughout Japan and is widely distributed in East Asia.

キク科（APG分類：キク科）の多年草。茎は直立し、高さ0.25～1.5メートル、上部で分枝する。葉は互生し、卵形で、基部がやや心臓形となるものもある。両面に軟毛があり、裏面には腺点(せんてん)がある。8～10月、枝の先に下向きの頭花をつける。総包葉のすぐ下に2～4枚の包葉がある。山野の林縁に生え、日本から朝鮮、中国に広く分布し、至る所にあって個体数が多く、変異も多い。葉身の大きいノッポロガンクビソウ、葉身の細いホソバガンクビソウなどの変種が区別されている。名は、枝につく頭花がきせるの雁首(がんくび)に似ていることによる。コヤブタバコ（小藪煙草）C. cernuum L.はガンクビソウに似るが、全体に軟毛が密生し、頭花はより大きい。日本全土の低地の林内に生え、東アジアに広く分布する。
