Japanese: 分子場 - ぶんしば（英語表記）molecular field

Also known as the mean field or effective field. The interaction between one element and other elements is considered to be an effective external field acting on this element, and a many-body problem is approximated by a one-body problem. This external field is called a molecular field. It is the simplest approximation method used when dealing with cooperative phenomena in statistical mechanics. In the case of ferromagnetic materials, it is used in the form of an average magnetic field acting on one spin, and in the case of ferroelectric materials, it is used in the form of an average electric field acting on one dipole. In the field of statistical mechanics, it is called the Black-Williams approximation.

平均場または有効場ともいう。1つの要素と他の要素との相互作用をこの要素に働く有効な外場と考えて，多体問題を一体問題で近似する。この外場を分子場という。統計力学で協力現象を扱うときに用いられる最も簡単な近似法である。強磁性体の場合には1つのスピンに働く平均的な磁場，強誘電体の場合には1つの双極子に働く平均的な電場などの形で用いられる。統計力学の分野ではブラック＝ウィリアムズ近似と呼ばれている。
