Molecular sieve (molecular sieve)

Japanese: 分子ふるい(分子篩) - ぶんしふるい

A method of separating mixtures by utilizing the effect that molecules are captured or not captured by an adsorbent depending on their size. Large and small molecules are separated depending on the effective pore size of the adsorbent. Molecular sieves are well-known as a material that exhibits a remarkable molecular sieving effect. They are synthetic zeolite with the general composition x Na ₂ O･ y Al ₂ O ₃ ･ z SiO ₂ ･ v H ₂ O, and have uniform pore sizes, although many different types with different pore sizes are commercially available.

分子がその大きさによって吸着媒に捕捉されたりされなかったりする効果を利用して混合物を分離すること。吸着媒の有効孔径の大きさに応じて，大きい分子と小さい分子とがふるい分けられる。顕著な分子ふるい効果を示すものとしてモレキュラーシーブmolecular sieveが有名である。これは合成沸石であり，xNa₂O･yAl₂O₃･zSiO₂･vH₂Oの一般組成をもつもので，均一の孔径をもっており孔径の異なった多種類のものが市販されている。
