Virgin Tomb - Otomezuka

…It is mentioned in the Man'yoshu (volume 9, 1801-1803, 1809-1811, volume 19, 4211-4212) and has been widely known since ancient times. In chapter 147 of the Tale of Yamato, it is described in more detail and specificity, including a scene in which the Empress and other ladies-in-waiting recite shoji uta (poems written on paper screens) in the harem of Emperor Murakami, and a follow-up story on the Virgin's Tomb. The Virgin's Tomb is referred to as the "Kyotozuka" in the fifth travelogue of the Sankikikashu and in the miscellaneous Horikawa Hyakushu poems by Minamoto no Toshiyori, which includes the note "The heart of the sea route is read," and is also seen in the scene of the Minatogawa battle in volume 16 of the Taiheiki. …
