The degree of servitude varied by region, but in most cases, the lord allocated or loaned him farmland and housing, and while technically they had independence, they were required to pay taxes and perform other duties for the lord, and were usually employed in the lord's labor from time to time. 〘名〙 主家に隷属する譜代の農民。隷属の度合は地方によって異なり、多くは主家から農地と住居を分与または貸与され、形式的には自立性を持つが、年貢、諸役は主家につとめ、随時主家の労働に使役されるのを普通とした。門屋(かどや)。
