Ashikaga Manor - Ashikaga no Sho

A manor established throughout Ashikaga County and Yanada County in Shimotsuke Province (Ashikaga City, Tochigi Prefecture). In 1142 (Koji 1), Ashikaga Manor (roughly 100 cho of fields and farmland) was established under Anrakujuin Temple, and the following year, Yanada Mikuriya was established under Ise Ninomiya Temple. In this region, the Hidesato-lineage Ashikaga clan (Ietsuna, Toshitsuna, Tadatsuna) and the Minamoto-lineage Ashikaga clan (Yoshikuni, Yoshiyasu, Yoshikiyo) competed for power, but when the former was destroyed during the Jisho-Juei civil war, the Minamoto-lineage Ashikaga clan established control, and Ashikaga-sho and Yanada Mikuriya came to be called Ashikaga-sho. It became the base of the Ashikaga clan throughout the Kamakura and Nanboku-cho periods, and during the Muromachi period it was under the control of the shogunate's Mandokoro as the Shogun's Goryosho (directly controlled territory). In the midst of the Kyotoku War, in 1466 (Bunsho 1), the land was given to Nagao Kagehito, and the Nagao clan ruled the area until 1590 (Tensho 18).

下野(しもつけ)国足利郡、梁田(やなだ)郡（栃木県足利市）の全域に成立した荘園(しょうえん)。1142年（康治1）に安楽寿院(あんらくじゅいん)領足利荘（田畑それぞれ約100町）、翌1143年伊勢二宮(いせにぐう)領梁田御厨(やなだみくりや)が成立した。この地域において、秀郷(ひでさと)流藤原姓の足利氏（家綱(いえつな)、俊綱(としつな)、忠綱(ただつな)）と源姓足利氏（義国(よしくに)、義康(よしやす)、義清(よしきよ)）が勢力を競い合っていたが、治承(じしょう)・寿永(じゅえい)内乱期に前者が滅亡すると、源姓足利氏が支配権を確立し、足利荘と梁田御厨を含めて足利荘と称するようになった。鎌倉・南北朝時代を通じて足利氏の基盤となり、室町時代には将軍家御料所（直轄領）として幕府政所(まんどころ)の支配下にあったが、享徳(きょうとく)の乱の最中1466年（文正1）にこの地は長尾景人(ながおかげひと)に与えられ、長尾氏は1590年（天正18）までこの地を支配した。
