...The leaves of ferns are a combination of a forked axis, some parts of which are missing, and pinnately branched leaflets, and show various types of configurations depending on the species and variety. Some angiosperm leaves have stipules near the base of the petiole. Examples of homologous organs formed by leaf transformation include the thorns of cacti, tendrils of pea plants, and the funnel-shaped trapping organs of pitcher plants, but the most notable example is the transformation into the elements that make up flowers, including the tepals (Figure 3).
