Fronto (English spelling) Marcus Cornelius Fronto

Japanese: フロント - ふろんと（英語表記）Marcus Cornelius Fronto

An ancient Roman orator. Born in Cirta, Numidia. He served as a magistrate in Rome, and became consul in 143. He was well known as a teacher of rhetoric, and was appointed by Emperor Antoninus Pius to be the Latin tutor of the future emperor Marcus Aurelius. His gorgeous prose, modeled on the old-fashioned style of Plautus, Cato, Sallust, and others, had a strong influence on later generations.

古代ローマの雄弁家。ヌミディアのキルタに生まれる。ローマで政務官を歴任、143年に執政官(コンスル)となる。修辞学の教師として名声が高く、アントニヌス・ピウス帝により、後の皇帝マルクス・アウレリウスのラテン語の家庭教師に任ぜられる。プラウトゥス、カトー、サルスティウスなどの古風な文体を手本とした華麗な散文は後代に強い影響を与えた。
