A large river in Siberia, Russia. It originates in the Sayan Mountains, merges with its largest tributary, the Angara River, separates Eastern Siberia from Western Siberia, flows north, and empties into the Kara Sea in the Arctic Ocean. It has the largest volume of water of any river in Russia, and a large hydroelectric power station has been built near Krasnoyarsk. It freezes over from October to May. There is a regular shipping route from near Minusinsk in the basin surrounded by the Sayan Mountains to the mouth of the river. The total length is 4,090 km.

ロシア，シベリアの大河。サヤン山脈に発し，最大の支流アンガラ川と合流，東シベリアと西シベリアとを分けて北流し，北極海のカラ海に注ぐ。ロシアの川のうち最も水量多く，クラスノヤルスク付近に大水力発電所が建設されている。10月から５月氷結。サヤン山脈に囲まれた盆地のミヌシンスク付近から河口まで定期航路がある。全長4090km。
