A sport in which a plastic disc is thrown. It is said to have started in the 1940s when students at Yale University in the United States threw metal pie-baking plates at each other. In addition to being enjoyed as a recreational sport in parks, where players throw the disc like in a game of catch, there are nine official events held at the World Championships (1974-) and the Japan Championships. For example, distance (a competition of throwing distance), freestyle (skillful control and acting ability), disc golf (a competition of throwing the disc around a course), and ultimate (seven players compete for a goal like in basketball). Note that "Frisbee" is a registered trademark, so the sport is called "flying disc." →Related article Freestyle Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
