A needle attached to the end of a syringe. A thin metal tube with a blade shaped like a shaved bamboo. Needles for subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intravenous injections are approximately 2.5 to 3.5 cm long, those for intradermal injections are 1.3 cm, and the inner diameter of the tube is 0.6 to 0.7 mm for subcutaneous injections, 0.8 to 0.9 mm for intramuscular and intravenous injections, and around 1 mm for blood transfusions. In the days when needles were durable consumables rather than disposable as they are today, high-quality stainless steel was used. A stainless steel sheet is deep-drawn into a cup, which is then drawn into a thin tube, and the tip is then cut at an angle to finish it.
