Japanese honeysuckle (honeysuckle) - Japanese honeysuckle (English spelling)
A climbing shrub of the Caprifoliaceae family common in the mountains and fields (illustration). It is named after the nectar found deep inside the corolla, which tastes sweet when sucked, and is also called honeysuckle because some of the leaves remain even in winter. The stems grow long and wrap around other things, and the old bark splits vertically. The leaves are opposite, elliptical, and 3-7 cm long. Flowers bloom in pairs in May and June. The corolla is 3-4 cm long, white to pale pink at first, and later yellow. It is dorsoventral, with the upper lip having four lobes at the tip and the lower lip being long and slender. The fruit is spherical and ripens to black in the fall.
