William [IV] - William

Japanese:
William [IV] - William
The fifth King of the House of Hanover (reigned 1830-1837). Third son of George III. Created Duke of Clarence in 1789, he joined the navy the following year, serving in America and the West Indies, and became Commander-in-Chief of the Navy in 1827. He ascended to the throne upon the death of his elder brother George IV in 1830, and was nicknamed "the Sailor King" due to his previous career. The most important event during his reign was the electoral reform of 1832. When the bill was opposed by the House of Lords and faced difficulties, he did not respond to the request to create new peers to increase the number of votes in favor, but encouraged conservative peers to abstain from voting and was a hidden force in realizing the reform. As he and Queen Adelaide did not produce an heir to the throne, his niece Victoria succeeded him.
