Astronomical time - Tenmonji

Japanese:
Astronomical time - Tenmonji

In a broader sense, it refers to a time system determined astronomically, as opposed to atomic time, which is determined by atomic clocks. There is the Universal Time System based on the Earth's rotation on its axis, and the Ephemeris Time System based on the Earth's revolution. In a narrower sense, there is Mean Solar Time, which begins when the mean sun reaches its meridian at noon, and Greenwich Civil Time (Universal Time), which has been used in astronomy since January 1, 1925, and begins at midnight. To distinguish between the two, Greenwich Mean Solar Time, which begins at noon, is called Greenwich Mean Astronomical Time.
