Dvin

Japanese: ドビン(英語表記)Dvin
Dvin
The ruins of a city near the village of Upper Dovin in the southwestern part of the Republic of Armenia in the Trans-Caucasus region, 35 km south of Yerevan. Dovin was the commercial and handicraft center of the Caucasian Armenian Kingdom from the 4th to the 13th centuries. It began with the construction of an Arsacid fortress in 330, and became the seat of a regional satrapy for the Sassanid Persians from 428 and for Arabic and Islamic dynasties from 640 onwards, but was destroyed by an attack by the Mongol army in 1236. A comprehensive survey has been carried out since 1937, and excavations have uncovered a Catholicos palace from the 5th century, a basilica from the 6th century, a Bagratid palace from the 9th century, kiln remains, and residences of officials.
