A state university in Williamsburg, Virginia, USA. It is the second oldest university after Harvard University, and was founded by Anglicans in 1693 with a royal charter from England's King William III and Queen Mary II. Many notable people, including three presidents, T. Jefferson, J. Monroe, and J. Tyler, have studied here. Jefferson later embarked on reforms as Governor of Virginia and a trustee of the university, and adopted America's first selective curriculum and honors system.
