[Solar Eclipse and Sun Worship]
Myths and ideas about the origin of solar eclipses include (1) a monster swallowing the sun (if it swallows the moon, it's a lunar eclipse), (2) because the sun gets sick, or (3) because the sun and moon are husband and wife and have sex or fight. For example, there are many stories in Southeast Asia about a solar eclipse occurring because the sun is swallowed by a monster, but the Anar people, a branch of the Kuki people of Assam, have the following myth: There was once a pious man who kept a female dog, but the sun and moon were jealous of his virtue, so they tricked him, took his virtue, and fled to the heavens.
