Hula (English spelling)

Hula (English spelling)
A folk dance of the Hawaiian Islands. Originally performed by the native Polynesian Kanaka people of Hawaii during religious ceremonies, women wore leis (flower garlands) and bracelets and anklets made of whalebone and teeth, a short skirt called a pau, and men wore a tapa sash called a malo, and danced while twisting their arms and hips. In 1820, New England missionaries who arrived in Hawaii changed the pau to a long holoku, claiming it was immoral. At the same time, it was influenced by music brought from the West and changed. Today's hula includes modern hula auana and classical hula kahiko, the former of which uses ukulele and Hawaiian guitar, and the latter of which uses ipu (gourd), iliili (stone castanet), and pahu (drum made of palm trunk and shark skin). In the past, mele, which is chanting, and the hula dance were part of culture in Hawaii. In recent years, with the popularity of Hawaiian music and its development as a tourist resource, it has often come to be called hula dancing, losing its original character and becoming popularized.

Hula
Fulla

The goddess of fertility in Norse mythology. She was said to be the sister of Frigg, wife of Odin, and her most trusted maid, and was entrusted with the safekeeping of her jewellery box and footwear. She was said to have had abundant, wavy blond hair, which was thought to symbolise the harvest of gold, and was also known as Bora.
